Digitising a very small detailed component

Thanks to the 100% data generated by CT scanning, we can perform not only a complete surface inspection of this part, but also a very detailed internal inspection. This can reveal, for example, fine material cracks or porosities.

Process: step by step

Process

We positioned the clip on a foam fixture to hold the part in place during the CT scan.
This needs to be stable enough so that there is no movement of the part, but it also needs to be very lightweight so that there is still good contrast with the plastic material of the part.
Define the optimal CT settings and zoom range (voxel size).
Let the scanner do the work and scan the part.

Graphical reporting

A color plot shows the difference between the scan and the nominal CAD model.
You will get a very quick idea on the overal quality of your part.

A section through the scan and the nominal CAD model can mimic certain view from the technical drawing, making it easy to see the exact differences.

The visualisation of certain GDT checks, like flatness and profile tolerances, clarify where the reported values are coming from so that you can take the appropriate actions to tune your process.

We always provide you with a viewer file of the free Gom Inspect program because we want to make sure that you go the extra step in terms of quality inspection.

You will be able to have a look at the views that we have prepared for you in 3D and really dive into your product to improve your process.

Technical drawing

We make sure that all the necessary dimensions of your technical drawing are measured and reported.

We also make it really easy to keep the overview on several 100 dimensions by numbering all of them and using these numbers consistently throughout the complete project.
