3D Scan of a bronze statue

Replicas and duplicates

3D Scanning is commonly used for creating reproductions of (smaller) sculptures and art pieces. Thanks to this method, multiple copies and scale models can easily be made, different production techniques can be experimented with and the physical and digital worlds can create a new piece of art.

Process: step by step

Process

  • Spraying of the statue with water based anti-reflex spray
  • Setup in free state with some reference points on the statue
  • Digitizing of the object

Technology

  • GOM Atos III Triple scan with a 320MV (measuring volume)
  • Automated rotation table

Post-processing

  • We only needed to close very few holes. (=closed mesh)
  • Filtering of the scan to reduce the file size

3D Scan results

This illustration shows how the individual scan shot are combined to get the complete 3D scan.

The screenshots below show the final mesh.
