Reverse Engineering – Different approaches

Reverse engineering is basically the conversion of physical 3D products into (reproducible) 3D Data. This process can be used for various purposes. We can help you with, among other things:

  • Part reproductions / Digital twins
  • Creating a spare parts library
  • Providing a file for a Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

OPTION 1: Auto-surfacing

This is the perfect method when we’re working with organic objects without any crucial geometry.

  • Very accurate and fast
  • Sharp edges disappear
  • Ideal for complex models with many surfaces
  • Switching between different software can cause problems

OPTION 2: Geometric modeling

This is the perfect method to apply when it comes to reproducing geometric parts.

  • Very clean and sleek design
  • Perfect planes and radii
  • Modifications possible in other CAD-software
  • Design-intention

OPTION 3: Freeform modeling

  • Very clean and sleek design
  • Nurbs-surfaces
  • Easy to use in other CAD-software
  • Model “as-is”
